DC Studios is taking a bold step forward in its cinematic universe, introducing a new Krypto short film series as part of its growing lineup of content.
Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the project during a recent update on DC’s future, describing it as a seasonal collection of four short films centered around Superman’s loyal canine companion, Krypto.
A New Chapter for Krypto
The Krypto series will feature the same version of the character introduced in the upcoming Superman film, ensuring continuity within DC’s new universe.
Gunn and Safran humorously referred to Krypto as a “really terrible dog” but expressed great enthusiasm for the project, confirming that they’ve already watched early cuts of the shorts.
While no official release date has been confirmed, it’s highly likely that the shorts will debut on Max, DC’s primary streaming platform.
DC’s Expanding Universe
The announcement of Krypto’s short films is just one of many exciting projects in development at DC Studios.
Gunn and Safran also detailed their ambitious roadmap, which includes a mix of live-action and animated films and series.
Notably, they confirmed that DC is prioritizing quality over quantity, focusing on well-crafted storytelling rather than rushing content.
In addition to Krypto, other highly anticipated DC projects include:
- Supergirl – A gritty sci-fi adventure introducing Jason Momoa’s Lobo.
- Peacemaker Season 2 – John Cena returns in August for another action-packed season.
- Lanterns – A grounded and suspenseful Green Lantern series.
- Clayface – An R-rated horror movie set in Gotham’s dark underbelly.
What This Means for Fans
The inclusion of Krypto in DC’s lineup suggests a commitment to embracing lighter, family-friendly content alongside its darker, mature stories.
With James Gunn’s signature storytelling style, the short films are expected to deliver humor, heart, and superhero action in a fun, bite-sized format.
As DC Studios builds toward its larger interconnected universe, Krypto’s adventures will add a unique and charming perspective—one that longtime fans and newcomers alike can enjoy.
